Replacing and Fixing Old Jewelry

Can You Replace That Design You Made Years Ago?

Recently a customer who contacted us on live chat asked us, If I obtain insurance through the mentioned jeweler based on their appraisal, would you be able to design the same earrings if indeed I did have the misfortune to lose one years from now?”

The answer is, yes. We are makers and what we’ve made in the past we can make now. The question really is, "How easy is it going to be?" Though we are a small company we have a very complex product line with over 3,000 inventory pieces and we’ve made thousands of different designs. The question is, do we have the parts on hand or do we need to make them from scratch, which would then be considered custom work.

Our mixed metal jewelry is made of bi-metal, gold over silver components, and how they appear now may be slightly different than how we they appear in the past. In some cases, with earrings, sometimes we ask for the single earring to be sent back to us so that we can match the style exactly. Since our pieces are handmade, there are sometimes slight variations in the fabrication of the piece, especially over the years.

The only element of our jewlery that cannot be duplicated are gemstones, particularly unusual gemstones that are one of a kind. With earrings, we can replace both gemstones, or try to find a close match, but it is not always possible.
