The Bee happens to be our logo here at Reflective Jewelry — or as we like to call it, "our tiny mascot.” As artisan makers, we feel a special kinship with this sadly endangered species. DESIGNER

Helen Chantler is the Creative Director and Lead Designer at Reflective Images Jewelry. She was born in England and spent her adolescent years in South East Asia. Throughout her life, she has traveled over much of the world in her quest to experience and understand rich cultures that celebrate the human journey. She has spent over twenty-five years developing her own style. She works sculpturally, cutting out tiny pieces of gold and silver, which she overlays. Often she creates base relief images which are contemporary interpretations of ancient designs.

Helen is prolific and has a broad range, from wolves and ravens to exquisite two tone bracelets to nature inspired wedding rings. It is through her jewelry and wedding rings that she aligns talismanic meaning with ethical sourcing and artisanal design and it is through this process that Helen expresses her concerns for the environment as well as the essential beauty of traditional cultures. For Helen, jewelry will always be more than just fashion. She feels it can help awaken us to beauty and connection.

Metal Source: Fair Trade Gold & Recycled Silver

This jewelry is made with Fair Trade Gold & recycled sterling silver. The Fair Trade Gold is from certified small-scale mining organizations. “Fair trade” gold is the same gold as “Fairtrade” gold. However, in order to adhere to our licensing agreement with Fairtrade International, we must call it “fair trade” two words. Learn why here. The gold on this piece is not a thin veneer, but a solid piece of gold about the thickness of a credit card that is soldered onto the recycled sterling silver base.

Our Ethical Leadership:

We pioneered ethical sourcing in North America and started making jewelry with Fairtrade Gold in 2011. In April 2015, we became the first certified Fairtrade Gold jeweler in the USA.

We have attempted to work for years with Fairtrade International as a commercial liaison to create a viable commercial program that would build the movement. Because of major interests that oppose such a move (while claiming to support it), we are still the only certified Fairtrade Gold jeweler in the USA.

We have been active in these issues for over 15 years; from founding Fair Jewelry Action, the first ethical jewelry blog that evolved into a human rights and environmental justice network, to running numerous campaigns to the public and jewelry trade promoting environmental justice and human rights. Most recently we published the Ethical Jewelry Exposé and published several feature articles in Jewellery Business Magazine.

In our own bio-region, we initiated and co-led a campaign to successfully block a gold mine south of our Santa Fe home and remain active on local boards to preserve Santa Fe and surrounding regions from drilling and mining.
