This piece was a special commission from one of our customers whose wife worked at a bird sanctuary. Our Creative Director, Helen Chantler, has a deep connection with nature and really enjoys making one-of-a-kind, talismanic pieces. When creating these designs, which she calls "painting in metal", she attunes to the animal and strives to bring the energy of the animal she is crafting into the metal itself.

When you look at her Bear or Mountain Lion, the eyes are particularly intense. She pushes back against our anthropocentric impulses, endeavoring for each creature to declare “I am here, and I have just as much right to be here as you!” She has actually won a national award for this kind of work.

DESIGNER

Helen Chantler is Reflective Jewelry's founder. Originally from England, Helen spent much of her childhood in Southeast Asia — and has traveled extensively to many countries across the globe. When she eventually landed in Santa Fe, NM in 1986; she began her foray into metalwork as a leather belt-making apprentice. She soon evolved into jewelry-making at the same shop, delving into traditional handmaking techniques of the American southwest.

In Helen's extensive designs, developed over nearly 3 decades, you'll find interwoven inspirations from Helen's Celtic heritage, her fierce connection to Mother Nature, and her deep love of her chosen hometown of Santa Fe. Free Resizing

Rings, bracelets, or necklace chains can be resized for free within 30 days of purchase. Simply send back the item with your receipt and a note explaining what you'd like us to alter. Here’s our shipping address.

We ship items via First Class US mail. Tracked, insured, and express options are made available for an additional cost at time of checkout.

30 Day Returns

We will refund the cost of any piece of jewelry within 30 days of purchase. Custom items and certain ring sizes are excluded.

All of our work is guaranteed against defective workmanship for as long as you own it. If there is ever an issue with one of our pieces, send it back to us and we will repair it.

Our Ethical Leadership:

We pioneered ethical sourcing in North America and started making jewelry with Fairtrade Gold in 2011. In April 2015, we became the first certified Fairtrade Gold jeweler in the USA.

We have attempted to work for years with Fairtrade International as a commercial liaison to create a viable commercial program that would build the movement. Because of major interests that oppose such a move (while claiming to support it), we are still the only certified Fairtrade Gold jeweler in the USA.

We have been active in these issues for over 15 years; from founding Fair Jewelry Action, the first ethical jewelry blog that evolved into a human rights and environmental justice network, to running numerous campaigns to the public and jewelry trade promoting environmental justice and human rights. Most recently we published the Ethical Jewelry Exposé and published several feature articles in Jewellery Business Magazine.

In our own bio-region, we initiated and co-led a campaign to successfully block a gold mine south of our Santa Fe home and remain active on local boards to preserve Santa Fe and surrounding regions from drilling and mining.
